Heat Advisory Issued for Bay Area: Prepare for Dangerous Temperatures
A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Bay Area and surrounding regions until Wednesday, October 7, with temperatures expected to reach dangerous highs, prompting urgent safety precautions.
Residents across the San Francisco Bay Area and surrounding regions should prepare for dangerously hot conditions as a Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco CA. The advisory is effective immediately, beginning October 4 at 11:01 PM PDT, and will remain in effect until Wednesday, October 7 at 10:00 PM PDT.
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s to low-100s. Areas affected include the Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay Interior Mountains, North Bay Interior Valleys, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay Interior Valleys, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley (including San Jose), Eastern Santa Clara Hills, East Bay Hills, Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, and Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County (including Pinnacles National Park).
The NWS warns that this level of heat affects anyone without effective cooling or adequate hydration, potentially impacting health systems and industries. Overnight relief will be limited due to mild minimum temperatures and weak onshore flow.
To stay safe, the NWS advises the following: Hydrate by drinking plenty of water, and consider providing water to vulnerable individuals. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to early mornings or evenings. Be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and take immediate action if experienced.
Crucially, never leave young children or pets unattended in vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures rapidly. Check the backseat before leaving your vehicle.
