Heat Advisory Issued for San Francisco Bay Area: Take Precautions
A Heat Advisory is in effect for parts of the San Francisco Bay Area until Sunday, October 4, with temperatures in the low-80s to low-90s; residents should prioritize hydration and avoid leaving children or pets in cars.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for the San Francisco, Marin Coastal Range, Northern Salinas Valley/Hollister Valley and Carmel Valley, and Northern Monterey Bay areas. Residents are advised to take extra precautions to stay hydrated and cool as hot conditions are expected.
The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco CA, is effective immediately, October 3 at 7:48 PM PDT, and will remain in effect until 10:00 PM PDT on Sunday, October 4. Maximum temperatures are predicted to reach the low-80s to low-90s, with limited overnight relief due to mild minimum temperatures and weak onshore flow.
This level of heat can impact individuals without effective cooling or adequate hydration and may affect health systems and heat-sensitive industries. The NWS stresses that hydration is critical. Drink water, and if possible, take water to those who are vulnerable. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. Seek immediate action if experiencing symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can quickly reach lethal temperatures. The NWS advises everyone to "Beat the heat and check the backseat!"
