Heat Advisory Issued for Coastal North Bay, San Francisco Peninsula, Big Sur

A Heat Advisory is in effect for coastal areas of the North Bay, San Francisco Peninsula, and Southern Monterey Bay/Big Sur Coast until Sunday, October 4, with temperatures reaching the low-80s to low-90s.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for the Coastal North Bay, including Point Reyes National Seashore, the San Francisco Peninsula Coast, and the Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast. The advisory is effective immediately, beginning October 3 at 7:48 PM PDT, and will remain in effect until 10:00 PM PDT on Sunday, October 4.

The National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco has issued this advisory due to expected hot conditions, with maximum temperatures reaching the low-80s to low-90s. Mild overnight temperatures and weak onshore flow will limit relief.

This level of heat can affect individuals without effective cooling and adequate hydration. Impacts are likely in some health systems, heat-sensitive industries, and infrastructure.

Residents are advised to take critical precautions: hydrate frequently by drinking water, and if possible, provide water to vulnerable individuals. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. Recognize and act immediately on symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Crucially, the NWS reminds the public: "Beat the heat and check the backseat!" Never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures rapidly.
