A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for San Diego County Inland Valleys, including Escondido, El Cajon, Lakeside, and Poway, effective October 10 at 2:26 AM PDT, warning of hazardous winds and potential major flooding.
Residents in the San Diego County Inland Valleys, including Escondido, El Cajon, Lakeside, and Poway, are urged to prepare immediately for hazardous wind and potential major flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued a Tropical Storm Watch effective from October 10 at 2:26 AM PDT.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, with the potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Limited wind damage is possible, including damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect many large tree limbs to break and scattered power and communications outages. Act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Peak rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, are anticipated, leading to potential major flooding. Emergency plans should include the likelihood of evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and small streams could become dangerous. Floodwaters may enter structures, and many roads and bridges could close. Strongly consider protective actions if you are in a flood-vulnerable area. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
