Tropical Storm Watch Issued for San Diego Inland Valleys

Residents in San Diego County's Inland Valleys, including Escondido, El Cajon, Lakeside, and Poway, are urged to prepare immediately as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the NWS San Diego CA, effective until October 10, 2026, at 4:15 PM UTC. This watch indicates potential for hazardous winds and major flooding.

Strong winds of 39 to 57 mph are possible. Act now to secure outdoor property such as porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect limited damage, including broken tree limbs and potential power outages. Roads may become impassable due to debris, and driving conditions could be hazardous, particularly on bridges.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and higher amounts possible. Major rainfall flooding is anticipated, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Rivers, tributaries, and small streams may overflow, and destructive runoff could cause rockslides and mudslides in mountain areas. Flood waters may enter structures, making some uninhabitable. Avoid driving through flooded streets, as conditions will be dangerous.

Tornadoes are not expected, but gusty winds and thunderstorms may still occur. For more information and local updates, visit sdcountyemergency.com.
