A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for San Diego County Mountains, including Julian and Pine Valley, warning of hazardous winds and major flooding potential; residents should finalize preparations and move to safe shelter.

Residents in the San Diego County Mountains, including Julian and Pine Valley, are advised to finalize preparations for hazardous wind and potential major flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued a Tropical Storm Watch, effective October 10 at 8:02 AM PDT. This watch indicates that tropical storm conditions are possible within the specified area.

Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. There is a potential for winds to reach 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor structures, widespread tree limb breakage, and scattered power outages are possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, are expected. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and destructive runoff in mountain areas could increase the risk of rockslides and mudslides. Floodwaters may enter structures and make roads impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. For more information, visit sdcountyemergency.com.
