RANDOLPH COUNTY, AL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Randolph County, effective immediately until 4:30 AM CDT this morning, October 9. Residents in Roanoke and surrounding areas should prepare for potential significant impacts from heavy rain and tornadoes.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with forecasts predicting 1-3 inches of rain and locally higher amounts. Moderate flooding is possible, which could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Drivers should be aware of hazardous conditions and potential road closures.

The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes. Residents should have a plan to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. Significant damage, power loss, and communication failures are possible in affected areas.

While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph), conditions will be gusty. Little to no additional wind impacts are expected, but community officials are assessing current impacts.
