Local Wildlife (04/01/26): Roaming Gator Spotted Near Bell Lake

Land O' Lakes residents are advised to exercise caution after a large alligator was sighted roaming near Bell Lake on Wednesday, April 1st. The sighting occurred in the late afternoon, with reports indicating the gator was observed near the residential areas bordering the lake.

While alligator sightings are not uncommon in our community—aptly named for its abundant lakes—especially near natural water bodies, this particular instance involved the reptile venturing closer to developed areas than usual. Local wildlife officials remind residents to maintain a safe distance from alligators and never feed them, as this can make them lose their natural fear of humans.

Pet owners are encouraged to keep their animals on leashes and away from the water's edge, particularly during dawn and dusk when alligators are most active. Children should also be supervised closely when playing near lakes, ponds, and canals.
