Local Wildlife (04/01/26): Roaming Gator Spotted Near Bell Lake
Land O Lakes residents are advised to exercise caution after a gator was spotted roaming near Bell Lake on April 1, 2026. The sighting occurred in the vicinity of Bell Lake Road, a popular area for local families and outdoor enthusiasts.
While gator sightings are not uncommon in Land O Lakes, with its abundance of lakes and wetlands, especially during warmer months, residents are reminded to maintain a safe distance from all wildlife. Authorities encourage anyone who spots an alligator in an unusual location or exhibiting aggressive behavior to contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) immediately. Never attempt to feed or approach an alligator, as this can lead to dangerous encounters.
Keeping pets on leashes and away from the water's edge, particularly at dawn and dusk, is also recommended to ensure their safety. The FWC provides resources and guidelines for coexisting safely with alligators, which can be found on their official website.
