Local Wildlife (04/01/26): Roaming Gator Spotted Near Bell Lake
Land O Lakes residents are advised to exercise caution after a gator was spotted roaming near Bell Lake on April 1, 2026. The sighting occurred in the vicinity of Bell Lake Road, a common area for local families and outdoor enthusiasts in this Pasco County community.
While gator sightings are not uncommon in our community, especially near natural water bodies like the many lakes dotting Land O Lakes, this particular instance involved the reptile moving outside its typical habitat. Authorities remind residents to maintain a safe distance from alligators and to never feed them, as this can lead to them losing their natural fear of humans.
Residents who encounter an alligator that appears to be a nuisance or in an unusual location should contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286). The FWC will dispatch trappers to assess the situation and, if necessary, remove the alligator.
Keeping pets on leashes and away from the water's edge, especially during dawn and dusk, is also highly recommended to ensure the safety of both animals and people.
