Clearwater City Council to Consider Key Land Use Changes and Proclamations
Clearwater City Council is set to address a range of local issues at its upcoming meetings, including significant land use amendments, flexible development approvals, and community recognition. Residents can expect decisions on properties across the city, from the vibrant downtown's Turner Street to the waterfront Island Estates' Island Way and the residential Pineapple Lane.
Among the key items on the agenda is a flexible development approval, ID#26-0400, for the conversion of a property at 375 Turner Street into a medical clinic. This proposal seeks flexibility for reduced off-street parking and landscape buffers, based on a parking demand study and a comprehensive landscape program. The existing building does not exceed 35 feet in height, and the modified parking lot includes 57 off-street parking spaces.
Another flexible development approval, ID#26-0401, concerns an existing 1,838 square foot commercial dock with a new boat lift accessory to 27-unit attached dwellings at 125 Island Way. This property falls within the High Density Residential Island Estates Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (HDR/IENCOD) and Preservation (P) Districts, and the request is for flexibility regarding the commercial dock.
Two related items, ID#26-0402 and ID#26-0403, involve amendments to the city's Future Land Use Map and Zoning Atlas for the property located at 1399 Pineapple Lane. The proposed changes would reclassify the land from Residential Low (RL) and Residential Agriculture (R-A) districts (Pinellas County designations) to the Recreation/Open Space (OS/R) category (City of Clearwater). These are Level Three Applications, indicating a significant change in land use.
In addition to development matters, the City Council will also consider community recognitions. Item ID#26-0395 is a presentation for a Medal of Courage Award to Fire Fighter Charles Stokes, along with an award for the Pinellas County Deputy who assisted in the incident. Furthermore, the Council will review and act on several pension-related requests, including approval of new hires as plan members (ID#26-0396) and employee requests for vested (ID#26-0397) and regular pensions (ID#26-0398).
A National Safe Boating Week Proclamation, ID#26-0407, is also on the agenda, highlighting the city's commitment to public safety on its beautiful Gulf Coast waterways. The minutes from the March 17, 2026 Community Development Board (CDB) meeting (ID#26-0399) are also slated for approval.
Residents interested in these topics can typically find meeting schedules and agendas on the city's official website. The City Council generally meets approximately every 18 days at 6:00 PM.
