Clearwater City Council to Consider Key Development and Pension Actions
Clearwater City Council is set to address a range of important local issues at its upcoming meetings, including significant development proposals, pension approvals, and a proclamation for National Safe Boating Week. Residents can expect decisions on land use changes and flexible development requests that could shape the city's landscape.
Among the key items on the agenda is a flexible development approval for a medical clinic at 375 Turner Street in the heart of downtown Clearwater. This proposal, identified as FLD2025-10026, seeks flexibility for reduced off-street parking and landscape buffers as part of a comprehensive infill redevelopment project. Additionally, a request for flexible development (FLD2026-01002) is on the table for an existing commercial dock accessory to 27-unit attached dwellings at 125 Island Way within the High Density Residential Island Estates Neighborhood Conservation Overlay.
Further land use changes include an amendment to the city’s Future Land Use Map (LUP2026-02001) and the city’s Zoning Atlas (REZ2026-02001) for the property located at 1399 Pineapple Lane. Both actions propose converting the land from Residential Low/Residential Agriculture to Recreation/Open Space categories, indicating potential new public green space or recreational facilities for the community.
The Council will also be reviewing and taking action on several pension-related items, including the approval of new hires as plan members (ID#26-0396) and requests for vested (ID#26-0397) and regular (ID#26-0398) pensions from employees. These decisions are overseen by the Pension Trustees, a board chaired by Mayor Bruce Rector, with Nathan Hightower chairing the Pension Advisory Committee.
In a moment of community recognition, Fire Fighter Charles Stokes is slated to receive the Medal of Courage Award, with an additional award presented to the Pinellas County Deputy who assisted in the incident. This presentation (ID#26-0395) highlights the bravery and inter-agency cooperation within Clearwater's public safety services.
Finally, the Council will consider a proclamation for National Safe Boating Week (ID#26-0407), a timely initiative as warmer weather approaches and more residents take to Clearwater's pristine Gulf waters. The minutes from the March 17, 2026 Community Development Board (CDB) meeting (ID#26-0399) are also up for approval.
Clearwater City Council typically meets approximately every 18 days at 6:00 PM. Residents interested in these or other local government actions are encouraged to attend or review meeting agendas.
