City Council to Address Key Development and Pension Matters
Clearwater City Council is set to tackle a range of important local issues at its upcoming meeting, including significant development proposals, pension adjustments for city employees, and a special recognition for a local hero. Residents can expect decisions that will shape the city's landscape from its vibrant downtown to its coastal waterfronts and impact the lives of its dedicated workforce.
Among the key items on the agenda is a flexible development approval for the conversion of a property at 375 Turner Street into a medical clinic. This proposal, identified as FLD2025-10026, seeks flexibility for reduced off-street parking and modified landscaping through a Comprehensive Landscape Program. Another development item, FLD2026-01002, concerns a flexible development approval for an existing 1,838 square foot commercial dock at 125 Island Way, accessory to 27-unit attached dwellings within the High Density Residential Island Estates Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (HDR/IENCOD) and Preservation (P) Districts.
Further land use changes are also on the docket, with LUP2026-02001 proposing an amendment to the city’s Future Land Use Map for 1399 Pineapple Lane, changing it from Residential Low (RL) to Recreation/Open Space. This is coupled with REZ2026-02001, an amendment to the city’s Zoning Atlas for the same property, moving it from the Residential Agriculture (R-A) district to the Open Space/Recreation (OS/R) district.
The Council will also address several critical pension-related matters. These include the approval of new hires as plan members (ID#26-0396), and the review and action on employees' requests for vested pension (ID#26-0397) and regular pension (ID#26-0398). These decisions are vital for the financial security of city employees and the long-term health of the pension system, overseen in part by the Pension Trustees, chaired by Mayor Bruce Rector, and the Pension Advisory Committee, chaired by Nathan Hightower.
In a moment of community recognition, the Council will present a Medal of Courage Award to Fire Fighter Charles Stokes, along with an award to the Pinellas County Deputy who assisted in a recent incident (ID#26-0395). This presentation highlights the bravery and dedication of Clearwater's first responders who protect our beachside neighborhoods.
Additionally, the Council will approve the minutes from the March 17, 2026 Community Development Board (CDB) meeting (ID#26-0399). The CDB meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 1:00 PM.
The City Council typically meets approximately every 18 days at 6:00 PM. Residents interested in these or other local government actions are encouraged to attend or review the meeting agendas.
