Clearwater City Council to Consider Key Development and Pension Actions

Clearwater residents can expect a busy agenda at an upcoming City Council meeting, with several significant items slated for review and action. Among the topics are flexible development approvals for a medical clinic and a commercial dock, land use and zoning changes, and critical pension-related decisions.

One notable item, ID#26-0400, involves a Flexible Development approval for the conversion of an existing building at 375 Turner Street in downtown Clearwater into a medical clinic. The proposal seeks flexibility for reduced off-street parking and landscape buffers, a common consideration for comprehensive infill redevelopment projects within the Institutional (I) District.

Another development, ID#26-0401, requests Flexible Development approval for an existing 1,838 square foot commercial dock, including a new boat lift, accessory to 27-unit attached dwellings at 125 Island Way in the scenic Island Estates neighborhood. This property is located within the High Density Residential Island Estates Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (HDR/IENCOD) and Preservation (P) Districts.

The Council will also address land use and zoning amendments for the property at 1399 Pineapple Lane. Item ID#26-0402 proposes an amendment to the city’s Future Land Use Map, changing it from Residential Low (RL) to Recreation/Open Space. Concurrently, ID#26-0403 seeks to amend the city’s Zoning Atlas from the Residential Agriculture (R-A) district to the Open Space/Recreation (OS/R) district for the same property.

In personnel matters, the Council will review and act on requests for vested and regular pensions (ID#26-0397 and ID#26-0398), as well as approve new hires as plan members (ID#26-0396). These actions are crucial for the city's employee benefits and long-term financial health.

Additionally, the meeting will include a Medal of Courage Award Presentation to Fire Fighter Charles Stokes and an award to the Pinellas County Deputy who assisted (ID#26-0395), recognizing their bravery and service to the community.

The City Council typically meets approximately every 18 days at 6:00 PM. Residents interested in these or other agenda items can find more information through the City Manager's Office or relevant department.
