Clearwater City Council to Consider Key Development and Land Use Changes

Clearwater City Council is set to review several significant proposals impacting local development, land use, and city operations at upcoming meetings. Residents can expect discussions on a new medical clinic, a flexible development for a commercial dock, and amendments to the city's Future Land Use Map and Zoning Atlas.

One notable item, ID#26-0400, involves a Flexible Development approval for the conversion of a property at 375 Turner Street in downtown Clearwater into a medical clinic. The proposal seeks flexibility for reduced off-street parking and landscape buffers, based on a parking demand study and a Comprehensive Landscape Program. This Level Two Application will be a key discussion point for the Community Development Board, which meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 1:00 PM.

Another Level Two Application, ID#26-0401, concerns a Flexible Development approval for an existing 1,838 square foot commercial dock with a new boat lift at 125 Island Way, nestled in Clearwater's Island Estates neighborhood. This property, accessory to 27-unit attached dwellings, is located within the High Density Residential Island Estates Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (HDR/IENCOD) and Preservation (P) Districts. The request specifically seeks flexibility for the commercial dock itself.

Further land use changes are on the agenda with two Level Three Applications. ID#26-0402 proposes an amendment to the city’s Future Land Use Map, changing the category for 1399 Pineapple Lane from Residential Low (Pinellas County) to Recreation/Open Space (City of Clearwater). Correspondingly, ID#26-0403 seeks an amendment to the city’s Zoning Atlas for the same property, shifting it from the Residential Agriculture (R-A) district (Pinellas County) to the Open Space/Recreation (OS/R) district (City of Clearwater).

In addition to these development items, the City Council will also address several administrative and recognition matters. These include the National Safe Boating Week Proclamation (ID#26-0407) and a Medal of Courage Award Presentation to Fire Fighter Charles Stokes and an assisting Pinellas County Deputy (ID#26-0395). The Council will also review and act on new hires as plan members, and employee requests for vested and regular pensions (ID#26-0396, ID#26-0397, ID#26-0398).

The City Council regularly meets approximately every 18 days at 6:00 PM, with Council Work Sessions held on the first and third Monday of each month at 1:30 PM. Residents interested in these matters are encouraged to attend or review the agenda materials available through the city's official channels.
