City Council to Consider Medical Clinic, Dock Flexibilities, and Land Use Changes
Clearwater City Council is set to address a range of significant local development and land use proposals at an upcoming meeting, including a new medical clinic, a commercial dock expansion, and changes to the city's Future Land Use Map and Zoning Atlas.
Among the key items on the agenda is a request for Flexible Development approval for the conversion of an existing building at 375 Turner Street in downtown Clearwater into a medical clinic. This proposal, identified as FLD2025-10026, seeks flexibility for reduced off-street parking and landscape buffers through a Comprehensive Landscape Program. The existing building does not exceed 35 feet in height, and the modified parking lot includes 57 off-street parking spaces.
Another item, FLD2026-01002, involves a request for Flexible Development approval for an existing 1,838 square foot commercial dock, including a new boat lift, accessory to 27-unit attached dwellings at 125 Island Way in the scenic Island Estates neighborhood. The property is located within the High Density Residential Island Estates Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (HDR/IENCOD) and Preservation (P) Districts.
The Council will also review two related Level Three Applications concerning the property at 1399 Pineapple Lane. LUP2026-02001 proposes an amendment to the city’s Future Land Use Map, changing it from the Residential Low (RL) category (Pinellas County) to the Recreation/Open Space category (City of Clearwater). Concurrently, REZ2026-02001 seeks an amendment to the city’s Zoning Atlas, moving the property from the Residential Agriculture (R-A) district (Pinellas County) to the Open Space/Recreation (OS/R) district (City of Clearwater).
These items, along with others such as the National Safe Boating Week Proclamation and the Medal of Courage Award Presentation to Fire Fighter Charles Stokes, are listed as 'Agenda Ready' for an upcoming City Council meeting. Residents interested in these developments are encouraged to review the detailed proposals available through the City Manager's Office.
