Clearwater City Council to Consider Key Development and Pension Actions
Clearwater residents can look forward to a busy agenda at upcoming City Council meetings, with several significant items slated for discussion and action. Among the notable items are flexible development approvals for a new medical clinic and a commercial dock, as well as crucial decisions regarding employee pensions and a proclamation for National Safe Boating Week.
One key action item, identified as ID#26-0400, involves a flexible development approval for the conversion of a property at 375 Turner Street in downtown Clearwater into a medical clinic. This project, located in the Institutional (I) District, seeks flexibility for reduced off-street parking and landscape buffers, based on a parking demand study and a comprehensive landscape program. This type of infill redevelopment is a common topic for the Community Development Board, which most recently approved its March 17, 2026, meeting minutes (ID#26-0399).
Another development on the agenda, ID#26-0401, concerns a flexible development approval for an existing 1,838 square foot commercial dock, including a new boat lift, accessory to 27-unit attached dwellings at 125 Island Way in the scenic Island Estates neighborhood. This property falls within the High Density Residential Island Estates Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (HDR/IENCOD) and Preservation (P) Districts, and the request is for flexibility regarding the commercial dock.
The City Council will also address land use and zoning changes for the property located at 1399 Pineapple Lane. Item ID#26-0402 proposes an amendment to the city’s Future Land Use Map, changing it from Residential Low (RL) to Recreation/Open Space. Concurrently, ID#26-0403 seeks to amend the city’s Zoning Atlas from Residential Agriculture (R-A) to Open Space/Recreation (OS/R) for the same property.
Beyond development, the Council is set to recognize Fire Fighter Charles Stokes with a Medal of Courage Award, alongside an award for the Pinellas County Deputy who assisted (ID#26-0395). Additionally, the Council will review and act on new hires as plan members (ID#26-0396), as well as requests for vested pension (ID#26-0397) and regular pension (ID#26-0398) for employees. These pension-related items are regularly overseen by bodies like the Pension Trustees, chaired by Mayor Bruce Rector, and the Pension Advisory Committee, chaired by Nathan Hightower.
Finally, the Council will consider a proclamation for National Safe Boating Week (ID#26-0407), underscoring the city's commitment to public safety on its Gulf Coast waterways. Residents interested in these and other civic matters can attend upcoming City Council meetings, which typically occur approximately every 18 days at 6:00 PM.
