Clearwater City Council to Address Key Development Projects and Recognize Firefighter Heroism

Clearwater City Council is set to tackle a range of important community issues and recognize local heroism at its upcoming meeting. Among the key items on the agenda are several flexible development approvals, land use map amendments, and a special presentation honoring Fire Fighter Charles Stokes.

One significant item, ID#26-0400, involves a flexible development approval for the conversion of a property at 375 Turner Street in downtown Clearwater into a medical clinic. This Level Two Application seeks flexibility for reduced off-street parking and modified landscaping, a common consideration for infill redevelopment projects within the Institutional (I) District.

Another development, ID#26-0401, concerns a flexible development approval for an existing 1,838 square foot commercial dock, including a new boat lift, accessory to 27-unit attached dwellings at 125 Island Way. This project, located within the High Density Residential Island Estates Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (HDR/IENCOD) and Preservation (P) Districts, also seeks flexibility for the commercial dock under a Level Two Application.

The Council will also review two Level Three Applications related to the property at 1399 Pineapple Lane. ID#26-0402 proposes an amendment to the city’s Future Land Use Map, changing it from Residential Low (RL) to Recreation/Open Space. Concurrently, ID#26-0403 seeks an amendment to the city’s Zoning Atlas, shifting the district from Residential Agriculture (R-A) to Open Space/Recreation (OS/R).

In a moment of community recognition, Fire Fighter Charles Stokes will be presented with the Medal of Courage Award (ID#26-0395). An award will also be given to the Pinellas County Deputy who assisted in the heroic act. These presentations are scheduled as part of the Council meeting.

Further items on the agenda include the National Safe Boating Week Proclamation (ID#26-0407), approval of minutes from the March 17, 2026 Community Development Board meeting (ID#26-0399), and several pension-related actions, including approval of new hires as plan members (ID#26-0396) and review of employee requests for vested (ID#26-0397) and regular (ID#26-0398) pensions.

Clearwater City Council typically meets approximately every 18 days at 6:00 PM. Residents interested in these matters can attend the meetings or review the agenda items, which are currently listed as 'Agenda Ready'.
