Tropical Storm Warning Issued: Wewahitchka Faces Severe Weather Threats

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Wewahitchka, with immediate action required due to severe wind, major flooding, and potential tornadoes, according to NWS Tallahassee FL.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Inland Gulf, specifically impacting Wewahitchka, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:57 PM EDT. Residents in Wewahitchka are urged to finalize all preparations and seek safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL forecasts peak winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph, posing a threat of 39 to 57 mph winds. Limited damage to property such as porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break, with some trees potentially snapping or uprooting. Roads may become impassable due to debris, and scattered power and communications outages are anticipated.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1 inch of rainfall expected. The NWS warns of potential for major flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and floodwaters may enter structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with many road closures expected.

Furthermore, a Tornado Watch is in effect, indicating conditions favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. The NWS advises those in manufactured homes or on boats to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado warnings and be prepared to shelter quickly if one is issued. Significant impacts from tornadoes could include widespread damage, power loss, and communication failures.

The warning is set to expire on October 10 at 7:00 AM UTC. For local weather updates, visit weather.gov/tallahassee. For emergency management information, consult the Florida Division of Emergency Management and Gulf County Emergency Management.
