Urgent: Life-Threatening Storm Surge and Winds in Coastal Gulf

A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Gulf, including Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, with life-threatening surge, tropical storm force winds, flood potential, and possible tornadoes. Residents must shelter immediately.

Staff Writer
10/10/2026 · Gulf County edition

Coastal Gulf residents, particularly in Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, are under an immediate and extreme Storm Surge Warning issued by NWS Tallahassee FL as of October 10 at 2:07 AM EDT. Life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet above ground is possible around high tide. Shelter against this surge is critical, and all flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from surge flooding.

Equivalent Tropical Storm force winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected through the next few hours. Last-minute efforts to protect property should be complete, and residents must shelter from hazardous wind now.

A Flood Watch is in effect with potential for major flooding from heavy rain, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with potential for significant impacts. Remain in shelter and move to the safest place if a tornado warning is issued. This warning expires October 10 at 10:15 AM UTC.
