Dangerous Rip Currents, High Surf, and Coastal Flooding Expected
A Rip Current Statement, High Surf Advisory, and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for Coastal Gulf and Coastal Franklin Counties, bringing dangerous rip currents, large breaking waves, and minor coastal flooding through Sunday.
Residents and visitors in Coastal Gulf and Coastal Franklin Counties should be aware of a Rip Current Statement, High Surf Advisory, and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, FL.
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect through late Sunday night, October 12, 2026, at 4:00 AM EDT. Dangerous rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, relax and float, and do not swim against the current. If able, swim following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
A High Surf Advisory is also in effect until 11 AM EDT /10 AM CDT/ Sunday, October 12, 2026, bringing large breaking waves of 2 to 11 feet in the surf zone. This will create dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until noon EDT /11 AM CDT/ today, October 10, 2026. Minor coastal flooding is expected, with flooding of lots, parks, and roads. Only isolated road closures are anticipated. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding is expected to continue through today.
