A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Wewahitchka by NWS Tallahassee FL, effective immediately, urging residents to prepare for dangerous winds, potential major flooding, and several tornadoes.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Wewahitchka, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This warning was issued today, October 9, at 8:28 AM EDT, and expires at 4:30 PM UTC.

Residents in Wewahitchka must act now to complete preparations for dangerous winds. Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, but potential exists for winds of 58 to 73 mph. Significant wind damage is possible, including damage to roofing, siding, mobile homes, and trees. Roads may become impassable due to debris, and scattered power outages are expected. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for Wewahitchka, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to major flooding. Emergency plans should account for extensive rainfall flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and flood waters may enter structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be prepared to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.

Little to no storm surge flooding is anticipated, but rough surf, coastal erosion, and life-threatening rip currents are possible. Monitor forecasts and follow instructions from local officials.
