Tropical Storm Warning for Wewahitchka: Act Now!

Wewahitchka is under a Tropical Storm Warning with immediate action required due to hazardous winds, major flooding potential, and a significant tornado threat, effective now until 10:15 AM UTC.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Wewahitchka by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately as of October 10 at 2:07 AM EDT. This warning remains in effect until 10:15 AM UTC.

Residents in Wewahitchka should move to safe shelter immediately as hazardous winds are expected. Peak wind forecasts are 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect scattered power and communication outages. Driving conditions may become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with the potential for major flooding from heavy rain. Evacuations and rescues are likely due to extensive flooding impacts. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow. Streets and parking lots may become dangerous, leading to road and bridge closures.

A tornado threat is also present, with the situation favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter now. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Significant impacts from tornadoes could include widespread damage and power loss.

There is little to no threat of storm surge flooding. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee, Florida Division of Emergency Management, or Gulf County Emergency Management.
