A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, MT, advising residents to prepare for heavy snow and gusty winds. The warning is in effect from 6 PM this evening, October 10, until 6 AM MDT on Monday, October 12.

Affected areas include Meagher County Valleys, Cascade County below 5000ft, Eastern Pondera and Eastern Teton, and Judith Basin County and Judith Gap. Forecasts indicate total snow accumulations between 5 and 11 inches, with winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

Travel conditions are expected to become very difficult. The NWS warns that the wet and heavy nature of the snow, combined with strong winds, could lead to downed tree branches and isolated power outages. Snowfall on roadways, particularly at lower elevations, will be most significant from this evening through late morning on Monday.

If travel is essential, the NWS advises keeping an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle for emergencies. For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511.
