Drivers Urged to Use Caution: Dense Fog Reported in Southern High Plains

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by NWS Great Falls MT for patchy dense fog in the Southern High Plains and surrounding areas, urging drivers to use caution until 9:30 AM MDT today.

Drivers in the Southern High Plains, Eastern Pondera and Eastern Teton, Western and Central Chouteau County, Cascade County below 5000ft, and Gates of the Mountains are advised to exercise extreme caution this morning due to developing patchy dense fog. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, MT, issued a Special Weather Statement at 6:29 AM MDT today, October 1, 2026.

If you encounter fog, the NWS urges drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles. The dense fog is expected to gradually dissipate throughout the morning, with the statement expiring at 9:30 AM MDT today.
