Lake Wind Advisory Issued for Flathead/Mission Valleys
A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for Flathead and Mission Valleys until 9:00 PM MDT tonight, bringing strong winds and hazardous conditions for boaters; secure outdoor objects and drive with caution.
A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for the Flathead and Mission Valleys until 9:00 PM MDT this evening, October 9, 2026. The National Weather Service in Missoula MT advises residents and boaters to take immediate precautions.
Expect southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. These conditions will create rough waves on area lakes, making it hazardous for small craft. Additionally, a separate Wind Advisory will be in effect from 6 PM Saturday to 6 AM MDT Sunday, bringing northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, and isolated higher gusts near 50 mph possible along Highway 35, including Lake Blaine.
Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should use extra caution. All residents are urged to secure outdoor objects to prevent them from being blown around. Boaters on local lakes should exercise extreme caution due to strong winds and rough waves, which can overturn small craft.
