Rip Current Statement Issued for Coastal Pender, New Hanover, Brunswick
A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Coastal Pender, New Hanover, and Brunswick counties until 8 PM EDT today, October 11, due to dangerous rip currents and a strong longshore current.
A Rip Current Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington, NC, effective immediately until 8:00 PM EDT today, October 11, 2026. This statement applies to Coastal Pender, Coastal New Hanover, and Coastal Brunswick counties.
Dangerous rip currents are expected throughout the day. Additionally, a strong south to north longshore current is anticipated for east and southeast-facing beaches within these areas.
Rip currents pose a significant danger, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The NWS advises the public to exercise extreme caution if entering the ocean.
If caught in a rip current, the NWS instructs individuals to remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim directly against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current's pull. If unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help by calling or waving.
For your safety, always swim near a lifeguard.
