Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Northern Harrison: Prepare for Winds and Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Northern Harrison, including Lyman and Saucier, with residents urged to prepare for hazardous winds and moderate flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Northern Harrison, effective immediately, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans. This warning impacts residents in Lyman and Saucier. The warning was issued today, October 8, at 10:01 AM CDT and is set to expire at 6:15 PM UTC.
Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin. The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including potential damage to porches, awnings, and sheds, and scattered power outages. Many large tree limbs may break, and some roads could become impassable due to debris.
Moderate flooding from heavy rainfall is also a significant concern. Expected rainfall amounts are 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Emergency plans should account for potential moderate flooding, which may lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, and small streams may overflow. Flood waters could enter some structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS indicates the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected at this time. However, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds are still possible. For more information and updates, visit www.msema.org.
