Community Enhancement The Community Enhancement Division works in cooperation with residents and businesses alike, to build strong community partnerships, and to ensure compliance with code standards, in order to enhance the appearance and safety of our community. Business Regulatory Unit The Business Regulatory Unit ensures that businesses adhere to all regulations outlined in the City's Code of Ordinances. In addition, the Business Regulatory Unit monitors business licensing, approves applications, and inspects properties to verify that all requirements for the purposed use(s) have been met. FIU ranks among top 50 public universities in U.S. News & World Report for third year; ranks No. 1 for economic and social mobility
Florida International University was once again named a top public university in U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 rankings released today, ranking No. 46 among public universities and No. 100 overall. This year’s ranking marks the third consecutive year FIU has ranked among the top 50 public universities in the nation. The university leads the nation in economic and social mobility, ranking No. 1. FIU Business’ international business program is the university's top-ranked offering, placing No. 2 among all universities. Among public universities, FIU’s psychology program in the College of Arts, Sciences & Education rose 31 spots, while its computer science program in the College of Engineering & Computing climbed 16 spots from last year. Both rank among the top 100 public programs in the nation in their respective fields. FIU President Jeanette M. Nuñez said the results reflect the university’s commitment to excellence. “FIU is continuing its momentum toward our goal of becoming a top 30 public university in U.S. News by 2030,” Nuñez said. “These rankings reflect the strength of our academic programs, research and commitment to student success, while recognizing the opportunities we create for our students and alumni to achieve upward economic mobility.” The U.S. News rankings are among the most widely followed measures of higher education performance in the nation. For many students and families, the rankings provide a benchmark for comparing universities and making informed decisions about where to pursue a degree. These rankings come on the heels of a series of accolades, including three top-30 public rankings: Washington Monthly: No. 1 in Florida, No. 8 among public universities nationally and No. 18 overall; No. 2 in the Southeast, with additional recognition among the Best Colleges for Research. FIU researchers take center stage on The Academic Minute
FIU experts exploring important topics and issues are sharing their work with a national audience during FIU Week on The Academic Minute, Sept. 21-25, a radio show and podcast. The three-minute program features researchers from colleges and universities around the world. FIU’s featured researchers are examining topics such as health, cancer, AI and brain science. Monday Dr. Roberto Lucchini, professor in the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work, explores the lasting health effects of 9/11 on World Trade Center responders. His research examines how toxic exposures and chronic PTSD may affect brain aging and cognitive health. Nearly 25 years later, his work highlights why long-term monitoring of responders must look beyond physical and mental health to the aging brain. Read more about this in The Conversation. Tuesday Charles J. Dimitroff, professor in the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, explores a new way to help CAR-T cells fight cancer longer. His research uses glycoengineering to change the sugar coating of these cancer-fighting immune cells, creating a protective “shield” against the harsh tumor environment. Wednesday Joel Carnevale, assistant professor in the College of Business, examines how using artificial intelligence can change the way people perceive creative professionals. His research reveals how perceptions of authenticity could shape the future of creative work as AI becomes more prevalent in society. Read more about this in The Conversation. Thursday Rajiv Chowdhury, professor in the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work, examines drinking water as a surprising potential source of sodium in our diets. His research found that higher-salinity drinking water was associated with higher blood pressure and an increased risk of hypertension. The findings highlight a growing public health concern for coastal communities facing saltwater intrusion. Read more about this in The Conversation. Friday Matthew Sutherland, associate professor in the Center for Children and Families within the College of Arts, Sciences & Education, explores how sleep disorders may be linked to changes in brain structure. His analysis found structural changes in the brain across multiple sleep disorders, including in areas involved in attention and processing information. His research provides new insight into how ongoing sleep problems may affect thinking, behavior and overall brain health. Produced by WAMC Northeast Public Radio, The Academic Minute is hosted by Lynn Pasquerella, President of the American Association of Colleges and Universities. By Drop Box: Secure drop boxes are available in the lobbies of all six Tax Collector Service Centers, accessible Monday–Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Please note: Cash payments are not accepted in drop boxes). In-person at service center (reservations required) - While there are several other convenient payment methods, Palm Beach County taxpayers can pay in-person at one of our six service centers. Tax Collector Gannon reminds all property owners that per Florida Statutes 197.122, the responsibility to pay taxes remains even if a bill is lost or delayed in the mail. Taxes must be paid by March 31, 2027. Any taxes outstanding on April 1, 2027, will become delinquent. Taxpayers are encouraged to visit www.pbctax.gov for complete details about property taxes as well as information about enrolling in the convenient and budget-friendly Installment Payment Plan for future tax year payments.
