Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Eastern Orleans: Prepare Now

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Eastern Orleans, including Lake Catherine, effective immediately by the National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA. Residents in these areas should complete preparations now as hazardous conditions are expected.

Peak winds are forecast between 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39-57 mph. Damage to unsecured objects, large tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway.

A life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed soon. Leave immediately if evacuation orders are issued for your area. Near-shore escape routes may become weakened or washed out, and areas around Venetian Isles and Lake Catherine may become inaccessible.

Around 1 inch of rain is expected, with little to no potential for flooding. Tornadoes are not expected. For more information, visit gohsep.la.gov/emergency. This warning is effective until 7:15 AM CDT today, October 8.
