Residents in the Lewiston Area, Lower Garfield and Asotin Counties, Moses Lake Area, and Okanogan Valley must take immediate steps to protect tender plants from freezing temperatures. A Freeze Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Spokane, WA, effective until Tuesday, October 13, at 9:00 AM PDT.

Sub-freezing temperatures between 29 and 32 degrees Fahrenheit are expected overnight, with some outlying areas around Moses Lake potentially dropping to 27 degrees. The NWS advises that these conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

The affected areas include Clarkston, Peck, Ephrata, Tonasket, Lewiston Grade, Brewster, Nespelem, Lapwai, Moses Lake, Quincy, Oroville, Gifford, Pomeroy, Alpowa Summit, Disautel Pass, Okanogan, Bridgeport, Othello, Lewiston, Culdesac, and Omak. For the Okanogan Valley, L-C Valley, and Lower Garfield and Asotin Counties, overnight lows will range from 29 to 32 degrees Fahrenheit, with higher benches possibly seeing readings of 33 to 35 degrees.

The NWS instructs residents to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold before the warning expires.
