Residents in the Lewiston Area, Lower Garfield and Asotin Counties, Moses Lake Area, and Okanogan Valley must take immediate steps to protect tender plants from freezing temperatures expected tonight. The National Weather Service (NWS) Spokane has issued a Freeze Warning effective from 11 PM PDT tonight, October 12, until 9 AM PDT tomorrow, Tuesday, October 13.

Sub-freezing temperatures between 29 and 32 degrees are expected, with some outlying areas around Moses Lake potentially dropping to 27 degrees. The NWS warns that these conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Affected areas include, but are not limited to, Brewster, Alpowa Summit, Lewiston, Bridgeport, Omak, Ephrata, Clarkston, Moses Lake, Othello, Disautel Pass, Tonasket, Lapwai, Peck, Nespelem, Oroville, Quincy, Lewiston Grade, Gifford, Pomeroy, Okanogan, and Culdesac. For the Okanogan Valley, L-C Valley, and Lower Garfield and Asotin Counties, overnight lows will range from 29 to 32 degrees Fahrenheit, with higher benches potentially seeing readings of 33 to 35 degrees.

Take action now to cover or bring inside any sensitive plants. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
