Residents in the Moses Lake Area and Upper Columbia Basin are advised to be prepared for sudden drops in visibility due to a Blowing Dust Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Spokane WA.

The advisory is in effect today, October 11, 2026, from 8:57 AM PDT until 5:00 PM PDT. Areas affected include Othello, Harrington, Odessa, Grand Coulee, Quincy, Moses Lake, Wilbur, Coulee City, Ephrata, Ritzville, and Creston.

Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, are expected. Visibility may drop to between one-quarter and one mile at times. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated due to reduced visibility. Light showers occurred this morning, and the threat of blowing dust is expected to increase as conditions dry out.

The NWS advises that if you encounter blowing dust or blowing sand on the roadway or see it approaching, pull off the road as far as possible and put your vehicle in park. Turn your lights all the way off and keep your foot off the brake pedal. Remember, 'Pull Aside, Stay Alive'.
