A Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect for the Washington Palouse, Moses Lake Area, Upper Columbia Basin, Spokane Area, and Waterville Plateau until 7:00 PM PDT this evening, October 9.

The National Weather Service Spokane WA has issued this advisory due to expected patchy to localized areas of blowing dust. Visibility could drop to between one-quarter and one mile at times. Southwest to west winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph are anticipated.

Areas affected include Ritzville, Pullman, Grand Coulee, Odessa, Wilbur, La Crosse, Tekoa, Quincy, Airway Heights, Rosalia, Colfax, Cheney, Coulee City, Downtown Spokane, Ephrata, Fairfield, Badger Mountain Road, Creston, Moses Lake, Rockford, Othello, Harrington, Davenport, Oakesdale, Mansfield, Uniontown, Spokane Valley, and Waterville.

Hazardous driving conditions are expected due to reduced visibility. Drivers should be prepared for a sudden drop in visibility. If you encounter blowing dust or blowing sand on the roadway or see it approaching, pull off the road as far as possible and put your vehicle in park. Turn your lights completely off and keep your foot off the brake pedal. Remember the safety instruction: 'Pull Aside, Stay Alive'.
