Dolly Parton's estate is escalating a legal battle against her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who attorneys claim has fortified his Fairview, Tennessee, home with signs, caution tape and barbed wire to avoid legal service. These measures stand in stark contrast to the quiet neighborhood where such security concerns are typically limited to neighborhood watch signs.
She's Alive, the corporation managing Parton's business interests and led by her longtime manager Danny Nozell, requested a temporary restraining order. Seaver, who managed Parton's security for over 20 years before his termination in September, faces accusations of a "campaign of threats" intended to extract money from Parton's business ventures, including the Dollywood theme park and the SongTeller hotel.
Attorneys for the estate filed a photograph of the alleged barricade as evidence against Seaver's request for more time to find legal counsel. They also argue Seaver's security company missed a deadline to challenge an emergency restraining order. The estate now seeks to convert the temporary order into a permanent injunction against both Seaver and his company.
The conflict surfaced last month when Nozell sued Seaver, alleging interference with business relationships through "threats, intimidation, and coercion." A judge previously granted a temporary restraining order, citing emails that appeared to link "threats with demands for payment." Seaver allegedly threatened Nozell and others associated with Parton's estate. One message, dated Aug. 19, approximately a week before Parton's death, reportedly stated: "I'm going to destroy the entire brand if you don't get these (Dollywood business partners) out of our bit." Following Parton's death, Seaver allegedly wrote: "I just sold 29 million dollars’ worth of ammo to Haiti. I’m not exactly a media person, Danny. I’m literally an international arms dealer and mercenary." Seaver has since claimed his messages were taken out of context, stating he is a "career soldier and military contractor" who conducts arms deals for foreign governments.
A hearing on the estate's request for a permanent injunction is scheduled for Friday, unless the court grants Seaver an extension.
