A former television news anchor received a life sentence Monday with the possibility of parole after 25 years for fatally stabbing her 80-year-old mother.

Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 48, pleaded guilty in late August to one count of first-degree murder in the killing of Anita Avers of Wichita, Kansas. The sentencing took place in Sedgwick County.

Mock will not be eligible for 15% good time credit but will receive credit for nearly a year served. She stated she would not appeal the ruling. The crime occurred Oct. 31, 2025, when officers responded to a home in south Wichita.

Officers found Mock outside the residence bleeding with cuts on her hands and arm. Inside, police discovered Avers unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. Avers was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock’s stepfather informed police Mock had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. Mock allegedly told authorities she killed her mother to “save herself,” believing Avers was the devil.

Sonja Kreutziger, Avers’ stepdaughter, told a television station that Avers had defensive wounds, indicating she knew her daughter was responsible. Kreutziger described Avers as being “stolen from all of us.”

Mock worked as a television news anchor for KTVI, a Fox affiliate in St. Louis, from 2011 to 2015. She was a morning anchor at KOKH, a Fox affiliate in Oklahoma City, from 2007 to 2011. Her career also included reporting positions in Montana and Minnesota, and she served as a sports reporter at KLKN, an ABC affiliate in Lincoln, Nebraska, from November 2002 to February 2004.
