Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Inland Jefferson: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for Inland Jefferson, including Monticello and Wacissa, with residents urged to prepare for hazardous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes; the alert is effective from October 8, 11:05 PM EDT until October 9, 3:15 AM EDT.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Inland Jefferson, including Monticello and Wacissa, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective October 8 at 11:05 PM EDT. Residents in these areas should immediately begin preparations for hazardous conditions.
The NWS forecasts potential winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Secure lightweight objects, and prepare for possible damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect many large tree limbs to break, with some trees snapped or uprooted. Scattered power and communications outages are possible. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Additional rainfall of 4-8 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected, posing a threat of major flooding. Emergency plans should account for evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous with many road closures.
The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. This alert expires October 9, 2026, at 3:15 AM EDT.
