A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Jefferson County, with residents urged to shelter immediately due to life-threatening storm surge, potential major flooding rain, and a threat of tornadoes.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Jefferson County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 5:17 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, FL. This warning will expire at 1:30 PM UTC today.

Coastal Jefferson County residents should immediately shelter against life-threatening storm surge, with a potential for 4-6 feet above ground through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Do not venture outside.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The NWS also indicates a potential for several tornadoes; if a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.

While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (10-20 mph with gusts to 35 mph), conditions may still be gusty. Officials are currently assessing realized wind impacts, with little to no additional impacts expected. Remain in a safe location.
