The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee FL issued this alert today, October 9, at 5:17 AM EDT, and it remains active until 1:30 PM EDT today. Residents in affected areas should act now to complete preparations.
Significant impacts are anticipated from flooding rain and potential tornadoes. A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Prepare for potential river overflows, dangerous small streams, and widespread road closures.
The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings. If a warning is issued, shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or boats should relocate to safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives.
Winds are forecast to be below tropical storm force, with peak winds of 10-20 mph and gusts to 35 mph. However, potential for winds of 39-57 mph exists. Prepare for limited wind damage, including to porches, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect scattered power and communication outages. No storm surge inundation is currently forecast.
