A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Jefferson County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 5:17 AM EDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Residents in surge-prone areas should shelter against life-threatening storm surge of greater than 3 feet above ground. Evacuations should be complete, and evacuees must remain in shelters away from floodwaters. Do not venture outside.

Peak storm surge inundation is forecast to be 4-6 feet above ground, with potential impacts unfolding through Saturday morning. Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with 4-8 inches of rain expected, prompting a potential for major flooding and likely evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately.

The NWS also reports a favorable situation for several tornadoes with potential for significant damage, power loss, and communication failures. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly. While winds are forecast below tropical storm force, gusts up to 35 mph are possible. Community officials are currently assessing realized wind impacts. This alert expires October 9, 2026, at 1:30 PM UTC. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee or floridadisaster.org.
