A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Jefferson County, issued today, October 8, at 11:06 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This is an immediate and extreme threat, with life-threatening storm surge possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning.

Coastal Jefferson County residents should prepare for 4-6 feet of storm surge above ground in surge-prone areas. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant impacts are anticipated, including damage to buildings near the coast, weakened or washed-out sections of near-shore escape routes, major beach erosion, and moderate damage to marinas and docks. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed before conditions become unsafe.

Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. The NWS advises planning for moderate flooding, with evacuations and rescues possible. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. The warning is effective until October 8, 2026, at 7:15 PM UTC.
