A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Jefferson County, effective immediately from 8:01 AM EDT today, October 8, 2026, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This warning is deemed 'Extreme' and 'Immediate', with life-threatening storm surge possible.

Coastal Jefferson County residents should prepare for significant impacts, including peak storm surge inundation of 4-6 feet above ground in surge-prone areas, with a window of concern from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Damage to buildings near the coast, major beach erosion, and significant rip currents are potential impacts. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to moderate flooding and evacuations. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The NWS also indicates conditions are favorable for several tornadoes. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.

While wind is expected to remain below tropical storm force, gusty conditions are possible.
