MONROE COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Monroe County, including Homewood and Monroeville, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL issued the warning at 4:07 AM CDT on October 9, 2026, and it remains in effect until 12:15 PM CDT today.
Residents should move to safe shelter immediately as dangerous winds of up to 55 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph, are expected. Potential impacts include significant damage to roofing, siding, porches, and carports. Unsecured objects will become dangerous projectiles. Several large trees may be snapped or uprooted, making some roads impassable due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are also anticipated.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. The NWS forecasts 3-6 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, posing a potential for major flooding. This could lead to widespread evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may rapidly overflow their banks, and floodwaters could enter many structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with numerous road closures expected. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.
