MONROE COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Monroe County, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. The warning was issued today, October 9, at 7:27 AM CDT and remains in effect until 3:30 PM CDT.

Residents in Homewood and Monroeville should prepare for dangerous winds and the potential for major flooding. Peak wind gusts of up to 55 mph are expected, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Significant wind damage is possible, including damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes. Large trees may be snapped or uprooted, leading to impassable roads and scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to major rainfall flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may overflow their banks, and floodwaters could enter numerous structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with many road closures anticipated.

Residents should complete all remaining efforts to protect life and property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
