A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Monroe County, with dangerous winds, major flooding, and a tornado threat expected from early this evening through Saturday morning; residents should finalize preparations and seek safe shelter immediately.
MONROE COUNTY, AL – October 9, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Monroe County, effective immediately as of 10:00 AM CDT. Residents in Homewood and Monroeville should complete all preparations as soon as possible, as dangerous winds and major flooding are anticipated.
Tropical Storm force winds, with peak gusts up to 70 mph, are expected to begin early this evening and continue through Saturday morning. Significant wind damage is possible, including to roofing, siding, porches, and mobile homes. Unsecured items can become dangerous projectiles. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to extensive major rainfall flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may overflow their banks, and many roads could become impassable or washed out. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. For local information, contact the Monroe County EMA at 251-743-3259 or visit www.facebook.com/monroeema. For storm impacts, refer to www.weather.gov/mob.
