A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Mobile Coastal areas, including Grand Bay, Dauphin Island, and Bayou La Batre, effective immediately until 3:00 PM UTC today, October 8. The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, reports this is an Extreme severity event with immediate urgency.

Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts should be completed now. Leave immediately if evacuation orders are given to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

Wind speeds are forecast at 45-55 mph with gusts to 70 mph, with potential for Cat 1 or 2 hurricane force winds (74-110 mph) Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Extensive damage to property and widespread power outages are anticipated.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
