Residents in southwest Alabama, northwest Florida, south central Alabama, and inland southeast Mississippi must immediately complete preparations to protect life and property from Hurricane Isaias. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL issued a Tropical Cyclone Local Statement today, October 8, at 4:16 PM CDT, warning of a dangerous hurricane at landfall expected Friday night. This alert is effective until 12:30 AM UTC on October 9, or sooner if conditions change.

Hurricane Isaias, currently located about 440 miles south of Mobile, AL, has strengthened to 100 mph winds and is moving northeast at 12 mph. Preparations for life-threatening storm surge and damaging winds must be rushed to completion today, especially in areas under Storm Surge and Hurricane Warnings including coastal Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Okaloosa, and Santa Rosa counties. Evacuation orders have been issued in some coastal counties; check with your local emergency management agency for the latest information.

Potential impacts include 5 to 7 feet of storm surge, extensive wind damage to structures, widespread power outages, and 4 to 8 inches of rain with isolated totals up to 15 inches, leading to significant flooding. A dangerous tornado threat is also expected east of the storm's track Friday night through early Saturday morning. Do not focus solely on the center; the wind field will expand, posing significant risks. Always heed the advice of local officials; 911 services may be limited during the storm. Monitor official updates from weather.gov, NOAA Weather Radio, or local news outlets.
