Christopher Bell experienced a significant setback Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway when a mechanical issue sidelined his No. 20 car, costing him a chance to gain ground in the NASCAR Cup Series Chase standings.
Bell had positioned himself well in the South Point 400, earning second place in the first stage and third in the second. This strong performance offered an opportunity to close the gap on contenders Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin.
However, a power steering problem developed midway through the race, severely impacting Bell's ability to control the car through the final stage. He ultimately finished 23rd, dropping from fourth to third in the standings.
"Disappointing to not be able to capitalize on a day like today when other guys had issues," Bell said. "It looked like it was an opportunity to make up some points, and it didn’t happen. Just going to go out there and race. We’ve got five more, and we’ll try and win a couple."
The team now heads to Charlotte for the next event.
