A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Lauderdale by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS, effective October 9 at 4:09 AM CDT. Residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous winds and potential moderate flooding.

Forecasters anticipate winds between 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. There is a potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor structures like porches and carports is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to secure property should be underway now.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Lauderdale can expect 1-3 inches of rain, with isolated higher amounts. This rainfall has the potential for moderate flooding, which could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may swell, and floodwaters could impact structures in vulnerable areas. Hazardous driving conditions are expected, and some road and bridge closures are possible. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The NWS currently indicates the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes. The Tropical Storm Watch expires October 9, 2026 at 12:15 PM UTC.
