Residents in Bradford, Eastern Alachua, Western Clay, Western Putnam, Central Marion, and Western Marion counties should seek shelter indoors immediately due to a strong thunderstorm moving through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville has issued a Special Weather Statement effective until 7:15 PM EDT tonight, October 10, 2026.

At 6:51 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Hawthorne, approximately 9 miles north of Citra, moving north at 20 mph. The primary hazards include wind gusts of around 40 mph and minor flooding from heavy rainfall.

Impacted locations include Interlachen, Keystone Heights, Melrose, Citra, Hawthorne, George's Lake, Lake Geneva, Florahome, Melrose Landing, and Cross Creek. Gusty winds may knock down tree limbs and unsecured objects. Torrential rainfall could lead to localized flooding.

If you are outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. This statement is set to expire at 7:15 PM EDT.
